Kids creating science
At the UCSD department of psychology, researchers are interested in how humans perceive the world, remember events, reason about other minds, and communicate with others. We're also interested in how each of these capacities develops in children. How much of our knowledge of the world is wired in from birth, and how much is learned through experience? Why do humans learn language, whereas other animals don't? How do children learn about things they can't see or touch, like the beliefs of other people?
At the KidCity Science Experience, you can help us answer these questions and learn about the scientific process at the same time. Once a week scientists from UCSD visit KidCity at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center to do experiments that explore children's language development, counting abilities, social reasoning, and other psychological abilities. Children take part in real scientific experiments that last between 2 and 5 minutes, normally presented as a game or story.
We look forward to meeting you at KidCity, and talking more about developmental science.
